We didn’t go to Latvia for its cuisine, the way you might with Greece or Mexico. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t great places to eat and drink. Across our three days in Riga we had some delicious meals at modern (and not so modern) restaurants. And by night we found plenty of great bars to drink in.

As an old Soviet state, Riga has some amazing history in Riga and the surrounding areas that give context to the city’s past and present which I’m really glad we experienced alongside the more contemporary side of Latvia.

How we spent three days in Riga

I went to Riga as part of a week-long trip to Estonia and Latvia. Instead of flying or taking the train or coach, we drove the 4.5 hours to Riga from Tallinn, stopping at a few sights along the way. So, after driving through the beautiful Latvian countryside and stopping in the beautiful village of Cesis and ‘the Switzerland of Latvia, Sigulda, we arrived in Riga.
